Ramblings from a team that spends way too much time chasing inventory with mobile computers...
<----- This guy does not work here, although he is still probably a nice guy.

If you are looking to manage inventory by adding mobile data capture and using barcode technology, you may have been finding in your search WMS (Warehouse Management Systems). As you make your inquiries, you may be getting asked if you are looking for a traditional WMS or a data capture solution? Since we are the ones typically doing the asking and have found many aren't clear on what the differences really are, I thought I'd try to help define it for you. Read More »

The Panatrack team is exhibiting at Dynamics Convergence next week in New Orleans. For those not in the know, Convergence is the premier yearly Microsoft Dynamics event "bringing customers, partners, team members and industry experts together in an environment created for you to discuss solutions, address business needs and establish a true community that can be leveraged throughout the year". (Or at least that is what Microsoft says. It is also a great chance to meet current and future customers and partners.) Read More »

OK, despite my best efforts at trying to keep current on the magic world of blogging, I have not been contributing my share of blog entries. This is despite my "I promise to contribute here a few times per month". Apparently, I blew that one. It is suffering along with the plan to start jogging this year. It is amazing the amount of neat things happening here, and the total lack of time I have had to make even this simple of an entry. Posting perfection being my biggest enemy, I'd rather do a quick brain-dump of recent coolness than be haunted by my procrastination. Read More »

Bar code data entry is faster and more accurate than key entry. For 12 characters, key entry takes 6 seconds versus .5 seconds to scan a bar code. For someone with excellent data entry skills, expect 1 error in every 300 characters. Bar code error rates depends on the barcode and varies between 15,000 to 36 trillion characters. Often we are asked what information should be bar coded to take advantage of the technology. Read More »

We are often asked what barcode is compatible with our solution ... or with Dynamics GP ... or with the bar code scanner hardware I plan to purchase. This blog entry is written to provide a general overview of barcodes and hopefully take out some of the mystery. Read More »

Kidding about the title...sort of. I was having a conversation recently with one of our partners who was relating a story of the efforts involved in upgrading their website. The timing was good because we have recently spent a significant effort doing some technology updates on our site as well. During the conversation it occurred to me that, once again, we share the same problems that our customers and partners face. I thought I would share what we are doing and some of the insights regarding how we are doing it. Read More »

Your symbol mobile computers may encounter a difficulty when first connecting to wireless access points from other manufacturers. You may already have received an error when trying to set up a connection profile that states something similar to the following message: "The profile you are trying to connect to may not connect due to regulatory rules." Most notably, if you have a Cisco or Linksys access point and a Symbol mobile computer, you are probably encountering this trouble. The good news is that the fix is easy. The bad news is that you have probably pulled your hair out trying to find the answer. Read More »

Always wondered what multi-bins refers to in Dynamics GP? Looking for ways to identify exactly where your inventory is? Curious if your sites are set up in the way sites are intended to be used? For organizations that need to closely track the location of their inventory and may need to move inventory regularly, we typically recommend taking advantage of multi-bins in Dynamics GP. Often during a demo of our Fixed Asset solution for Dynamics GP, I am asked about printing a fixed asset label. Since fixed assets are typically things that have value and depreciate over an extended period of time, you will want your fixed asset label to last longer than the fixed asset itself. Read More »
